What is Marriage?
In the Church, marriage is understood as a covenant.
This covenant is between the two persons being married and God. As such, we recognize that a connection with a faith community that meets regularly to worship and renew our commitment is essential in living out the vows we make.
It is our hope that you will find a spiritual home here at Emmanuel United Church.
Your decision to get married is surely one of the most important decisions you will ever make. May God bless you both as you prepare for this special day and for your new life together. We are delighted that you want to hold your wedding in the Church, and we will do our best to help you celebrate your Holy Union in a memorable and significant way.
Emmanuel United Church is a church community that welcomes all people, regardless of sexual orientation and as such, authorizes its Minister to conduct Wedding Ceremonies for both opposite-gender and same-gender couples.
Marriage is a risky venture, regardless of our gender and divorce statistics do not paint a very hopeful picture. So there’s more to preparing for a marriage than just planning for the Wedding Day. How can we help? You will be required to meet with the Minister to do some initial work around preparation for your marriage. Asking key questions and providing some helpful resources is the first step of support.
Before “I Do”
Because your Wedding Day is being held in the Church and the ceremony is within the context of a Service of Worship, there are some factors to take into consideration. While all decisions are made in consultation with the couple …
The Minister is responsible for all services that take place in the Sanctuary of the Church Building.
The Organist is responsible for ensuring that appropriate music is chosen and played in the Church.
The Wedding Director is responsible for ensuring that any decoration of the Sanctuary is appropriate for the setting.
The cost of a Wedding Ceremony at Emmanuel United Church in 2015 is $635 and payment is due no less than two weeks before the service.
A deposit of $100 is required to “hold the date” and is due at the time of booking. In the case of a cancellation, the deposit is fully refundable so long as the couple notifies the church no less than 60 days from the date of the wedding.
To book your appointment with the Minister, or if you are interested in talking further about getting married at Emmanuel United Church please contact the Church Office at 705 946-4949 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once the date of the wedding is confirmed:
Contact our Organist to discuss music for the ceremony.
Contact our Wedding Director to set the rehearsal date.
